This text-only guide explains how to access Blackboard and introduces your personalized homepage.

What is Blackboard?

Blackboard makes it easy for instructors to create online course resources that support your learning. Blackboard is also simple for you to use - you can access your Blackboard courses from any Internet PC or MAC, anywhere and anytime!

Where is Blackboard?

Blackboard’s Internet address (URL) is http://technology.uaa.alaska.edu/blackboard/

There is also a link on the UAA homepage that will take you to Blackboard. To enter the course management system from the homepage:

1. Double-click on the Internet Explorer icon on the left-hand side of the screen
2. Next, click on drop-down arrow for the "Quick jump to ..." menu
3. Then, click on the Blackboard entry
4. The Blackboard welcome page will be displayed

The welcome page includes a link to online and web enhanced courses as well as other useful links and information.

Login Page

Once at Blackboard, you will notice several entry fields on the left-hand side of the screen: login, username lookup, and "find what you need" database search window. In the middle of the screen are a seriecs of tutorial for faculty and students, course shell request form, and an enrollment request form.

Login

Enter your UAA username and password in the Blackboard Login screen, then press the [go] button. Click on the "Find your UA ID" if you are not sure of your user name and/or password.

 

Welcome

You will notice your name at the top of the screen. All of your Blackboard items and links can be found here. Any courses that you are teaching or otherwise involved in will be shown here, as well as links to changing your password, announcements, and information from Blackboard.

Your personal Welcome page

Your Welcome page will contain links to all of your Blackboard courses once you have enrolled in them.

1. The My Courses area will contain links to all the courses you are enrolled in - click on a link to view that course.
2. When you are viewing a course, click the My Institution tab at the top of the page at any time to return to your Welcome page. Another quick-start guide shows you how to find your way around a course.
3. The Tools area contains links to some Blackboard features, the one that you will use most often is the "Personal Information" link.
4. The Announcements area displays links to recent announcements from all your courses.
5. See some of the other quick-start guides for details on the My Calendar and My Tasks areas.
6. At the top right of the screen are three buttons (Home, Help, and Logout) that are links to the University homepage, the USP help desk and logging out of Blackboard. You can also log out of Blackboard by simply closing your Web browser, but please use the Logout button if you can. Thanks.
