Creating a Discussion Forum
For this activity you will create at least one discussion forum for your course within one of the course modules and/or lessons. The steps noted below will assist you in completing this task. (Click on the Print link in the upper right-hand-side of this screen to print a hard copy of this document.)
- Open your Angel course, click on the Materials folder, then navigate to the lesson/unit folder that will contain the discussion.
- Click on the Add Content link located under the folder title. The Lessons page will be displayed.
- Click on the Discussion Forum link. The New Discussion Forum form will be displayed.
- In the Title field enter a title for the discussion.
- In the Subtitle field enter a brief overview of what you would like the students to do.
- In the Directions field provide detailed instructions and expectations. (If this information is documented in another file the data can be copied and pasted into this field.
- Click the [Save] button.
Posting Narrative to the Forum
For the second part of this activity you will post the first message to the discussion forum created. This posting will help to start the conversation and to focus the students. For the exercise you should post a discussion question and provide guidelines for how you expect the students to interact in the forum. The following steps will assist you in getting the materials posted.
- Click on the title of the Discussion Forum create in the last step.
- Click on the New Post link located on the right-hand-side of the screen under the login name.
- Type the subject of your post in the Subject field.
- Paste or type the discussion question and guidelines into the Message field.
- Click the [Post] button. Your message will now appear in the list of postings.
